Lowther Fine Furniture

Who we are

Table

Lowther Fine Furniture design and create contemporary, bespoke furniture hand crafted in quality hardwoods using traditional techniques. Working mainly with individuals, interior designers and high-end independent retailers, we create beautiful furniture by commission for private and corporate clients alike.

We don't like to just design and make a piece of furniture. A Lowther Fine Furniture commission is something special; a piece to keep in a home or a family for generations.Matthew Rodgers, our chief designer/maker, has had a unique journey into furniture design. Leaving school at 16, Matthew decided to train in mechanical design engineering. Polishing Within a year of completing his apprenticeship, Matthew joined the motor racing team Williams F1 as a designer, where his work included chassis, bodywork, suspension components and wings.

After 5 years in the world of Formula 1, Matthew moved to Spinlock, the world-renowned yacht deckware and hardware designers. Subsequent work on a number of one-off projects led Matthew into furniture design. After training with one of the country's leading fine furniture makers, David Savage, in his Devon workshop, Matthew founded Lowther Fine Furniture with his partner Suzi. Matthew designs all our furniture and hand makes the majority of bespoke pieces.

Matthew is a full member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
